About Kim

I am a 21-year-old student and freelance writer from Melbourne. I have been complementing my journalism studies by writing on a freelance basis for the past 2 years. My work has been featured in Junkee, Archer Magazine, Global Hobo, and I also contribute regularly to neutral.love and Ramona Magazine for Girls.
I have just returned from Shanghai, China after spending the 2017 academic studying Mandarin intensively as Deakin University's Chinese Government Scholarship recipient.
In addition to freelancing, I have been involved with a number of collaborative writing projects. I spent last summer in Tokyo with Global Hobo, where in collaboration with a team of writers and editors produced a travel guidebook to Tokyo, as well as 2 individual articles which were published in Global Hobo's website. I was also a member of 2016's YMCA Victoria Youth Parliament Press Gallery, which saw me covering the 2016 Youth Parliament in the form of short form and long form articles, radio packages, live blogging and live tweeting.
I am also an active participant with the Deakin Debating Society, in which I have contributed to the Communications department in the form of blogs and articles on the DDS website. I was also part of Deakin University's contingent in the 2016 Australasian Women's Debating Championship, which Deakin co-convened with Monash University.
In addition to competing, I also adjudicate high school debating competitions run by the Debater's Association of Victoria. This requires me to both adjudicate debates and provide constructive feedback to school-aged debaters.
I have also recently been employed as a Deakin Engagement and Access Program Mentor, which runs workshops to school students from low socio-economic backgrounds to promote university as a realistic, achievable pathway, and promote equity and diversity at universities.
I am currently seeking more opportunities for publication and to develop as a writer, as well as opportunities to gain practical legal experience. My interests lie in Family and Criminal Law, as well as LGBTQIA rights, gender equality and racial equality.
