Hey there! I'm Alex, and I'm a final year Bachelor of Arts (Sustainability and Development)/Bachelor of Science (Botany) student, who likes to play music in my spare time. If you think that sounds like I'm interested in a little bit of everything...you'd be right.
Learning from so many different areas has highlighted to me the importance of diversity and the exciting possibilities of what can be achieved when problems are looked at from an interdisciplinary perspective. Through my studies in Science, I have become very comfortable working with data, developed my analytical skills, and have found ways to focus on the connections between occurrences. My Arts degree has provided me with breadth of knowledge, covering everything from community development and sociology to urban planning and policy, allowing me to practice and expand my critical thinking skills.
Outside of my studies, I have a strong interest and involvement in community organisations. My five years as a Girls' Brigade leader have involved planning and running activities for children on a weekly basis (read: being crowd control for a group of ten-year-olds. It's honestly great fun), while my nine years in a community music group have given me the opportunity to lead a large group of people, helping to bring them all together and make sure everyone is able to enjoy themselves and get involved.
I would love to find a workplace that can combine all these skills to work on something that will really benefit communities.
