About Renato
I obtained my graduation in biological sciences (in Brazil), in 2009. As an undergraduate student, I had the opportunity to undertake an internship at the National University of Tucuman (Argentina) for one semester to further develop my knowledge. During the undergraduate period, I studied the proteome of the nitrogen-fixing bacterium Herbaspirillum seropedicae, at the department of biochemistry and molecular biology in the Federal University of Parana (UFPR). Secondly, I received my Master of Science degree in “Genetics, Conservation and Evolutionary Biology” by the Brazilian National Institute of Amazonian Research. My master work was on evaluating the transcriptional changes of Symphysodon aequifasciatus (discus fish) exposed to petroleum derivatives. Currently, I am a PhD student at University of Queensland (UQ), in the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN). UQ is internationally recognised for its teaching excellence, and as an outstanding university. My project involves an integration of systems biology approach (e.g. transcriptomics, metabolomics, and genome-scale metabolic modelling) to understand the energetics and redox metabolism of Clostridium autoethanogenum and expand its product spectrum from gas fermentation (for instance, into the bioplastic PHB).
