About Louis
Hi, I'm Louis. I'm in my final year of my Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in marketing and economics. At the end of year 12 when I had to pick a course, commerce was a completely haphazard choice. But within the first year of my studies, I found that I'm really interested in and passionate about marketing.
I have found in my three years as a commerce student, that I have a creative side that is somewhat uncommon in my cohort. I’m a highly visual person, but I am always nurturing my creative abilities as I believe the ability to think creatively and in a variety of capacities is invaluable.
In conjunction with my commerce studies, I'm also studying a Diploma in Languages in French. This has intellectually stimulated me in ways that commerce hasn’t been able to, allowing me to engage with different cultures and ideas. It has also given me more holistic analytical skills, and allowed my creative thinking to flourish in contrast to economics. These are skills I put to use as an adjudicator for the Debaters Association of Victoria, where I’ve been responsible for supporting high school students in developing their public speaking and critical thinking skills - presenting those concepts in a clear, accessible manner.
Economics on the other hand, has given me hard analytical skills, and has helped me refine my attention to detail by examining micro facets of larger problems. Marketing has been the bridge between these two, engaging me in both hard and soft analysis.
My marketing studies have spanned a large breadth of subjects. I have studied brand management, neuromarketing, digital marketing, and even business ethics. Across these subjects, my marketing knowledge has been well fleshed out and I've been able to really learn how a business functions inside out.
I've also had the privilege of being able to apply the array of things I have learned throughout my degree. In my first and second year (2016-2017), I was the marketing coordinator of the Melbourne Arts Students Society (M-ASS), and a senior general committee member. Being a student society of over 3,000 members with a committee of just 15 members, this meant having a large breadth of responsibilities. My responsibilities included poster design, social media management (facebook and instagram), overall website function and design, eDM, editorial work, and collaborating with the broader executive team on a range of ad-hoc tasks. I have also been approached by other societies for social media consulting, having established my own expertise during my time with M-ASS.
I'm looking for experience primarily in marketing, however am always open to applying my skills in new ways, so I am receptive of all opportunities that come my way.
