About Karan

Hi, I'm Karan, a student at Western Sydney University currently amid my final semester. I graduated from high school in 2014, and spent my next two years pursuing Tennis, a sport I have played and adored all my life, in an attempt to perform professionally.
In 2016 I chose to exercise my need for a full-time formal education, and decided on a degree in Applied Finance. At the time I only chose this degree because of my success at my high school's Australian Business Week competition, but now approaching completion I am appreciative of the experiences I have been granted as a result of taking this pathway. The specialised units in my degree have all provided me with real world applicable value, including growing wealth on the securities market using data I had gathered and analysed for an assignment.
In 2018, through the University’s Business School, I was able to apply for and receive an Australian Government New Columbo Plan mobility grant. With this grant I decided to complete a Marketing CAPSTONE unit overseas in Hong Kong. We completed the unit over the course of a month, including the two weeks we spent overseas. While in Hong Kong, we worked in cooperation with small medium enterprises and start-up companies to grasp the nature of their start-up ecosystem. We then provided recommendations to a professional panel back in Sydney as to how the New South Wales start-up ecosystem, and The University’s own start-up incubator (UWS Launchpad) could benefit from our collected data. My 8 colleagues and I that attended the tour of Hong Kong all claim this as the highlight of our University experience, and many of us are close friends today.
As my final semester of University is now in full swing, I am actively looking for internships and professional experience opportunities to gain a foot hold in the Financial ecosystem, and I’m excited for a future five to seven years down the line where I could possibly continue my career somewhere overseas, perhaps even returning to Hong Kong. My experiences with the sport of Tennis have taught me the most important lesson I have thus far learned, which is to maintain composure in all things. I plan to apply this lesson when pursuing career paths in Finance and/or Marketing, avenues I have become passionate about throughout my years at University.
