About Zhong

Got time, passion, energy and resources to develop the agriculture, horticulture and food industry in Malaysia, Australia and beyond? Let’s have a chat!
I chose the path of agriculture because there is a burning passion in me to see the global food crisis resolved and starvation ended. It is also the most important key for rural development, poverty reduction, and combating climate change. One step to achieve this vision is through dedication to research activities, persevering in business creativity and industrial innovation, and a commitment to drafting sustainable policies to facilitate first-class farm management and quality crop production. Hence, I would like to seize every opportunity to equip myself with the required skills of a researcher, agronomist and policymaker, and accustom myself to the lifestyle, attitudes, and mindset of a farmer, scientist, and policymaker.
I believe that I am sufficiently trained in a culture of excellence and determination, and I am able to bring my knowledge in Maths, Science, Economics, Accounting, etc into the advancement of agricultural projects. Having experienced leadership positions, I understand the value of team partnership, and also am willing to assist and be taught. I am able to communicate fluently in English, Mandarin, and Malay, and also have the familiarity of working in laboratories, glasshouses, and fields. It will be my honour and privilege to participate in the frontline of facilitating breakthroughs in solving mankind’s toughest problems, creating change that will impact diets and lifestyles of people.
Mid- to long-term professional aspirations:
  1. Encourage and develop international markets for indigenous crops of cultural significance to promote the growth of rural industries and diversify dietary habits

  1. Foster closer collaborations between ASEAN countries on matters of agriculture, land use, water and natural resource management, and rural development

  1. Pioneer and establish a seed bank for tropical and sub-tropical fruits and vegetables

  1. Convince governments to reprioritise agricultural research and development, especially investing higher budget allocations and strengthening communications between government agencies, universities, multinational industry partners and small to medium size entrepreneurs
