About Raymond

I am a second-year B.Com (Hons) student at the University of Melbourne majoring in economics and finance, formerly studying B.Com/LLB(Hons) at Monash University. In 2016, I went on study abroad to the London School of Economics and Political Science to study statistics under Melbourne's Global Scholar's award. Additionally, I have also obtained the Leaders in Community Award, which requires over 60 hours of community volunteering, demonstrating my initiative and desire to apply myself to the fullest to make the most of every opportunity.
To expand my passion economics and econometrics out of an academic setting, I am a writer for the Economics Student Society of Australia, where I challenge myself to write on multifaceted issues such as the political impact of U.S military spending and the economic rationale of North Korea’s political economy. In addition to being engaging, I am adept at explaining challenging concepts with clarity, as shown through my role as a Year 12 English tutor, where all my previously struggling students scored within at least the top 8% of Victoria.
I have also previously interned at Forty Four Degrees Lawyers and Consultants, where I researched legal precedent and legislation, drafted a variety of documents such as affidavits and probates. A particular highlight of the internship was when I was in charge of the legal defence of a drink driver with only 2 days to prepare, and drafted the plea in mitigation speech that eventually resulted in the client facing community service instead of incarceration.
