About Sophie
I am Danish and English, living in Australia. I speak both languages and have lived and worked in both countries.
I spend my free time painting and sculpting in a studio I rent, constantly working towards a bigger portfolio of work, hoping to exhibit in 2018. I also enjoy yoga, hiking, camping, swimming and keep a journal.
My experience includes hospitality and retail over the course of the last 5 years (2013-2018), working in cafes, bars and a home ware store. I acquired a wide range of skills. These jobs taught me to be hard-working, patient and positive. I improved my communication skills, my work ethic and brought to my attention the importance of adaptability in each situation. These skills, though acquired through hospitality, I believe to be transferable to any work place. They have become my everyday values and have helped me to develop into the person I am proud to be.
In 2016, I worked as a social media intern for 3 months in a contemporary art gallery in Copenhagen called Martin Asbaek Gallery. While I mainly worked in the reception area, I helped set up an online filing/ archival system called GalleryManager for all of the art that had been bought and sold since it had opened. I helped with the opening nights for new exhibitions, speaking to artists and visiting their studios so as to help gauge how to approach the set ups and press releases. This job strengthened my organisational skills and computer skills. I learned how to use Adobe InDesign when making PDFs and began to understand Photoshop properly.
It would be easy for me to say that I am capable of anything that gets thrown my way. The fact is, sometimes I feel as though I am not capable. The difference here though, is that this does not mean that I give up. I have the capacity to be capable, by way of adaptability and creativity. I create solutions that do not necessarily follow normal procedure, but they work and they are sound. I find ways to solve problems uniquely. I have lived through a series of changing environments, and this is what taught me to be the way that I am. Determined, open minded, ready.
